Pre Pain & Smithuis

Smithuis was founded in 1889 by the Smithuis family as a traditional artisanal bakery. Smithuis founded Pré Pain in 1992, thereby pioneering the Dutch bake-off market. Pré Pain has grown to become the Dutch crusty bake-off specialist, annually producing over 100,000 tons of bread. At year-end 2012, Pré Pain welcomed Gilde as growth partner. Not long afterwards – in June 2013 – Pré Pain was hit by a massive fire, destroying over 70% of production capacity.

Together with management we fully rebuild the factory within nine months and simultaneously expanded production capacity with additional “artisanal” capabilities to meet continued strong customer demand. No customers were lost as a result of the fire.

In 2015, Pré Pain was sold to Swiss listed bake-off company Aryzta.
