The Spice Factory

The Spice Factory, founded in 1982 and based in Braine-l’Alleud (Belgium), selects, blends and packages a wide range of high quality herbs and spices. The Spice Factory realizes more than EUR 60 million in sales and employs more than 100 employees. The company mainly supplies large retailers with a/o its unique full shelf concept, but also services foodservice and industrial customers. The Company’s USPs consists of its “branded approach to private label” which includes developing unique display formats and a large variety of packaging, creating a “brand block” in the herbs and spices shelf. Because of its unique approach, The Spice Factory is market leader in Belgium in private label herbs and spices at retailers and has sizeable and growing positions in France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Management and Gilde have substantially invested in production quality, its organization and marketing and sales, resulting in a strong increase in quality level (e.g. BRC unannounced certification) and international growth. In 2014, management welcomed entrepreneur Mr Davy de Muyer (who previously partnered with Gilde to grow Hamal Signature, the Belgian market leader in spreadable salads) and Gilde as partners.

Following the acquisition of Boomerang Spices, The Spice Factory expanded its product offering with high-quality broths.

In the years that followed, management and Gilde invested in the company’s further international growth through its dedicated private label strategy. After more than ten years of working and growing together, The Spice Factory was sold to new Belgian owners in 2025.
