Sovitec is the European market leader in the manufacturing of high quality micro glass beads, which are mainly used as reflective material in horizontal road marking. Further applications include industrial surface treatment and as an additive to provide base materials with specific technical properties.
The company was incorporated as a daughter company of Glaverbel, the well-known Belgian glass producer in 1954. We acquired the company together with management in 2012 from Value Enhancement Partners (VEP).
The acquisition by Gilde is an important step in Sovitec’s ambitious growth strategy which focuses on growing sales by expanding its geographic reach and exploring new end-markets with innovative product applications. Sovitec has its headquarters in Fleurus, Belgium and operating facilities in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and Argentina.
In 2017, Gilde sold the Sovitec facilities in Belgium, Spain, Argentina and France to Potters Industries, a US producer of engineered glass materials who was willing to strengthen its position in Europe.
The German factory in Schönborn was not part of the transaction and was carved-out into a standalone organization. It now operates independently under the Vialux brand name.
