Evers Specials is the largest producer of bean sprouts in Europe. The company uses a highly efficient growing method by which the glasshouse climate is constantly adjusted to optimize bean germination. The fresh bean sprouts are subsequently sold or processed for use in frozen, dried, canned or ready-to-eat products as well as snacks. The company was acquired from Hazlewood (GB) in May 2000, by means of a management buy-out. The transaction enabled Evers Special to grow faster than it otherwise would have.
Targeted investments in production capacity and efficiency improvements have allowed the company to expand internationally in particular. Evers exports products to Belgium, France, Germany (its largest export market), Scandinavia, Spain and the United Kingdom. In addition to pursuing organic growth, the company acquired TKB in 2006. Gilde sold its stake in Evers to the incumbent management in 2007, following the successful integration of TKB.
